Weymouth B 135-1 (2 points)
beat Portland B 109-3 (0 points)
As told to prtcc.com by Mr. G. Neven
Only the 'B' team were in action in the second week of
indoor league action. The team was strengthened by the addition
of Grant Neven, taking up his usual position behind the
stumps, and Kev Dodson who turned up to swing his bat. Luke
Heritage and player/manager Richard Stewkesbury were jettisoned
from the week one line-up, but the Duke was forced to add himself
to the teamsheet after Sam Polley injured his ankle
before the game.
Weymouth B were invited to bat, or possibly chose to
bat (Mr. Neven was rather vague on this point) and amassed
a score of 135 for the loss of one wicket. Mark Nott was
noted to have bowled very well, as his left arm medium,
caused the Weymouth youngsters no end of problems. Mr. Neven
pointed out that Portland's fielding let them down as he
observed that "two fat blokes in the outfield let a
lot of runs by them."
Luckily one of the "fat blokes" redeemed himself
with the bat, as Kev scored a lusty 25 to reach retirement,
followed by his comrade in arms, Neven who also knocked
off a useful quarter century. Bill Gates was "cleaned
up trying to score runs quickly" after Neven and Dodson
were forced to leave the crease, and player/manager Stewkesbury
was "just clean bowled trying a wild thrash at
the ball". Mr Neven said that once again Scott batted
steadily trying to preserve the honour of Triangle's second
string side, and Marcus also played some nice shots, but
alas they fell 27 runs short of victory.
