Grey clouds hung over Reforne and reflected the mood of the players after another crushing defeat in the Premier Division, where they were totally outclassed and outplayed by title favourites Parley. Without their top batsman this season, and first-choice wicketkeeper, Dave Blackman (absent due to a death in the family), along with able middle-order bat Jason Styles (Lineker-esque injured toe), Triangle were lacking firepower in the middle order and it showed.

Things started badly when Captain Martin Hewson lost the toss, but Parley put the home side into bat on a damp and slow wicket (prepared by G. Elenor attempting to thwart a pace attack). Opening with Dorset hopeful Jan Davey, Hewson faced up to surely the best bowling attack in the Premier Division. Parley were without their Australian paceman, Jesse Hancock, but this hardly seemed to matter as the new ball pair of France and Brooks began to cut the top order to ribbons. Jan was trapped lbw in the second over by Brooks, though he was reluctant to leave the middle as he, and those on the sidelines, thought there was a definite inside edge. Vice-captain, Simon Barrett took a single off his first delivery, but then only lasted another, edging France for an easy catch to Parley's keeper, Bradley.

Hero-turned-villain, Simon Browne, came to the middle and was there to see the demise of the skipper, who collapsed trying to take a quick single off Brooks, and was run out before being helped off the pitch. His first thought was that he'd pulled his calf muscle, and after ice treatment administered by Nurse John Ryan, he was, eventually, whisked away to hospital where he was diagnosed with a ruptured achilles and told his season was over.

With the score at 16/3, things were looking decidedly grim for the home side, but luckily Gary Randell showed some of last season's magic and hit some crisp drives helping Browne move the score to 46, as the visitors brought Carl Brissett on to replace France down the hill. The West Indian left arm medium fast bowler, immediately started to cause the batsmen problems, but it took a magnificent catch by Cutworth at second slip to dismiss Randell, as Brissett found some extra bounce. Stand-in wicketkeeper, Will Curtis helped to steady the ship as he started a promising partnership with Browne, but was bowled by Wood, as a wide delivery came off his pads and rolled onto the stumps.

Alexander Charlton, who had hit a quick-fire 22 against Broadstone, ran well with Browne adding a priceless 11 runs, but then was run out in farcical scenes as he held his ground with Simon charging towards him screaming for a second run, and was on his way back to the pavilion when he eventually got out of the blocks. Browne then finally succumbed to Brissett and he was left bemused by a superb delivery which swung and cut away, bowling him after a dogged innings of 24. Evergreen John Ryan followed shortly afterwards, as the West Indian turned to orthodox left arm slow, and Triangle's senior pro offered up an easy chance for a caught and bowled.

It was left to Glenn Kelman to forget about his car troubles and try to get past the century mark with Bill Gates, and the reverend had the immediate effect of ruining Brissett's figures (now 3 wickets for an expensive 9 runs), clipping him for a boundary on the leg side. Gates looked wasted coming in at 10 in the order as he prodded and probed at the Parley bowling before Brooks returned replacing Brisset, and removed the minister on 9. With the score on 108/9, late replacement, Tony Morris (yet to face a ball in the Premier Division) was there to watch Kelman get the shoulder of his bat to Sparkes' bouncer and was caught by Wood.

With Hewson absent, Simon Barrett took charge and opened with Browne and Randell, as Triangle looked to restore some pride and pick up at least another point in the field. Alas this was not to be as Parley's and the Premier Division's top batsman, that man Carl Brissett, set about making short work of the home side's total. As Randell's first delivery was crisply driven for four by Brissett, it already looked like it was over. Gary came back and replied well to this challenge and only went for 16 off his 3 overs, though was unable to remove either of the openers. Coming up the slope, Browne bowled better than his figures suggest, as he was causing the batsmen problems, though it was Cutworth, rather than Brissett, who found runs hard to come by in the early overs. This was apparent as Brissett reached his half century in just 11 overs with the score on 60.

By then Jan Davey had replaced Randell down the hill, but he too came up against the brick wall of Brissett, as Parley's man blasted his side towards the victory total. Jan did find the edge of Brissett's bat once, but the ball floated through the vacant slip cordon, and once again, it just wasn't Triangle's day. As Cutworth found his feet and made more of his share of the strike helping the score along with an almost unnoticed 33. Barrett brought John Ryan on for Browne, but apart from surprising Brissett with a couple of trademark long hops that kept low, he was expensive as his two overs went for 18. The Captain replaced him with Gates, who had the honour of having one run to play with as Parley drew level, though to his credit it took until his 3rd delivery when Brissett hit the winning run.

With only one miserable point gained from the fixture, and a lot of pride lost, the players showed a lot of commitment and fight in the field defending such a low target, which will be needed in the weeks to come if there is any hope of avoiding relegation. With Simon Barrett now in charge, with the news that the influential Martin Hewson will need to rest his achilles for 6 months, he'll need to inspire his troops as they look to add to that opening day win against now high-flying Dorchester.
