Reforne hosted its first 2nd XI home game of the year and a top of the table clash to boot. Grant Neven's team, unbeaten after one game played faced Poole Town 3rds, boasting their own 100% record but from a more impressive three completed fixtures. After losing the toss on a day perfect for cricket, Triangle were asked to take to the field as Poole chose to make first use of another fine Graham Elenor track. This proved to be a good toss to lose for the home skipper as left arm spinner Jon Dixon removed batsmen one and three in the opening over. The first skied a catch to Mark Nott at deepish mid off, and then his replacement was beaten by pace, turn and bounce as Dicko claimed an opening 2-wicket maiden over. Sam Polley had a hard act to follow and couldn't quite manage to take a wicket in his opening over, yielding a solitary run, but struck in his next over as Poole's top order began to wobble alarmingly. Two more wickets from Dixon and another from Sam put the visitors firmly on the back foot on 22-6 after just 8 overs. The punishment continued, though Poole's tail wagged briefly as they managed to recover some pride with some edges through the slips, combined with a sloppy piece of keeping by the skipper allowing 5 wides, before Dicko and Polley wrapped up the innings. Jon notched up his 5th and 6th wickets making full use of the unruly pitch as well as benefiting from poor shot selection, and it was left to Polley to clean up the last man as Poole finished on a dismal 55 all out after just over an hour's play. Tea was skipped in favour of a quick finish to proceedings, so Neven stuck to his original game plan, sending out Bill Gates and Ken Dodson. Poole's main threat came from their opening bowler Clark, sending down some testing medium-fast deliveries, though never really threatening to take a wicket. Going for broke, the visiting captain set an aggressive field with two close catchers and three slips, playing right into Ken's hands who looked to hit either over or through them at any loose ball. Dodson kept the run rate healthy, while at the other end Gates was having a torrid time as he looked to get off the mark. In scenes reminiscent of Dave Blackman's mammoth innings against Bisterne (53 minutes to score his first runs) Gates was playing and missing with aplomb. Luckily his barren spell ended after only a few overs with a scrambled single, but he was never going to catch up with Dodson. After just 13 overs and 4 changes of bowler up the hill, Dodson hit the winning runs, and after a quick recount by the scorer, also notched up his half century, partnered by plucky Gates on an unbeaten 5 (just pipping extras on 4). 20 points in the bag and the visitors were sent home with nothing for their meager efforts. The suggestion of a beer match to fill the rest of the afternoon was mooted by Neven, but the invitation was turned down by the Poole skipper. Instead Triangle II held it's own single wicket competition, culminating in a thrilling showdown between Sam Polley and Luke Heritage, with the Prof. taking the honours after some sloppy bowling by Sam (see below).
