Portland Red Triangle got their promotion push back on track with a 34 run victory away to West Moors in NSA Dorset Division One. The omens weren’t good as John Ryan’s side looked to bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat to then bottom of the table Bournemouth & OB’s, with a trip to the new basement side and also looking for their first win on the road this season. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Triangle lost opener Dave Blackman in the fifth over bringing young Ben Doidge to the middle. Jan Davey (42) with Doidge (15) put on 43, before the pair were dismissed within three overs by first change bowlers Richard Turner and Ed Jeans. Triangle felt the pinch as Turner (2-11) and Jeans (3-61) restricted the visitors to adding just 75 during the middle of the innings, as well as taking the vital wickets of Gary Randell (20), Jason Styles (22) and Simon Browne collected a duck in possibly his last game of the year. It was Will Curtis (37 no) and Simon Barrett (41 no), both returning to first team action, who proved the islanders saviours smashing 62 runs off the last eight overs, as Portland finished on 191-6. Triangle started the innings brightly reducing the home side to 19-2 after 5 overs, with Browne making up for his earlier disappointment by combining with keeper Blackman to remove Easton. Jan Davey (2-26) was back to his economical best, picking up the decisive wicket of Mike Cockram (42), who with skipper Gary Bradley (43 no) had formed a fifth wicket partnership of 51, when West Moors were beginning to stamp their authority on the game. After the dismissal of Turner (26) in the 35th over, it was left to captain John Ryan (2-18) and Randell (3-27) to mop up the tail and secure another win for Triangle. |
