Triangle picked up maximum Division Seven points at Reforne. Portland
won the toss and elected to bat on a newly laid
strip and an opening partnership of 40 between experienced
campaigners Dave Males and Jon Dixon put the hosts
in a strong position.
Sherborne then hit back with three quick wickets
but that brought young Pete Laming to the crease
to join his heroic captain Tony Quayle and together
they smashed an unbeaten, match-winning stand of
160. Laming was in good touch hitting 68 while Quayle
led from the front with an excellent 89.
The visitor's Bibby and Lambert attacked the
Triangle bowling, weakened by late withdrawals.
But Bill Trevett and Dixon (3-33) got the home team
back on track although Sherborne were never out
of contention.
However an inspired bowling change introduced
15-year-old Aaron Riley and it was his 3 wickets
for 17 runs that ended the visitor's challenge and
helped the islanders to a 20 point haul.
