Youth policy is paying dividends for Triangle
by Dorset Echo's Hilda Swinney
THE achievements and efforts of Portland
Red Triangle both on and off the pitch were
recognised at the annual awards presentation
evening.
The event was held at the Blues Club
in Grove Road where chairman Conrad Cole
welcomed players and friends.
"A great deal has happened this
season with bat and ball," said Mr
Cole as he gave a resume of the year's sporting
and social events and he had a special thanks
for Jeff and Pauline Daniels of the George
Inn for their sponsorship, partnership and
hospitality.
He added: "The push this season
has been to give people who want to, the
opportunity to play cricket, to bring new
faces - and in some cases not so new - into
the club.
He had great praise for the youngsters
who have joined the ranks and even greater
praise for the seniors who give their time
to coaching them."
Talking of the potential shown by these
young players, Mr Cole said: "One day
they will certainly be enhancing the name
and reputation of our club and we must continue
to put youth cricket at the top of our agenda
and provide an environment in which they
can flourish and enjoy playing for Red Triangle."
He also spoke of the recently formed
partnership with the Royal Manor Arts College
and the 'excellent sponsor' that the club
had gained in Rupert Best of Portland Port.
Awards were presented by Club President
Brian Riley, assisted by Club Captain Richard
Stewkesbury and the evening was completed
with a buffet and dancing to the Rob Antony
Roadshow.
