| Match Report | At times a slip-shod display of fielding, with captain Squeaker Browne must culpable, ably assisted by a strangely lacklustre Scott Males. A typically firey spell of bowling from both Marsh and Browne went unrewarded, while first change bowler "M'Lady" Stewkesbury was uncharacteristically economical. The early wicket of Mounter was unlucky to be caught and bowled off a Morris half-tracker, driven straight back at the bowler and the ball lodged in his armpit. Kemp played a fine innings before retiring after he reached his 50 to let Irvin have a bat after he had drove a fair distance to get to the game, but he was then out quickly to a vicious straight ball from the mixed-bag spin of Bill Trevett. Youngsters Farley and Lucas struggled to find their line, and at times the pitch, as their wayward deliveries were duly punished. Chalky Barrett showed he could be a fine part-time spinner for the 1st XI with a tight 3-over spell, claiming the wicket of Harry "Little Master" Patel, via a neat stumping from evergreen Grant Neven. The innings closed with Brooklands setting a challenging target of 210/3, though as a fine Mrs Stewkesbury tea was being demolished, the heavens opened and play was suspended then finally abandoned, as both teams headed towards the shelter of the George Inn. |
