| Match Report |
PRT Under 12's: S. Profitt, M. Randell, C. Brown, H. Stone, S. Wallace, J. Wilson. Once again a good crowd witnessed an excellent match played out by two teams who were a credit to their clubs. Captain Simon Profitt won the toss and elected to field against a strong Cerne Valley team containing two Dorset under 12 players. The early overs produced some fine play by both teams, with good bowling and excellent shot selection by the batsman. All the Portland bowlers bowled well, in particular Simon and Scott Wallace and were both unlucky not to take any wickets. As the innings drew to a close Portland produced two stunning run-outs as the Cerne batsmen aimed to push up the run rate. No further wickets were taken as the Cerne innings closed on 141-2. Portland's reply began slowly as the batsmen struggled against an extremely accurate bowling attack and after 6 overs were behind the run rate on 42-2. Captain Simon with support from Scott Wallace, Harry Stone and Jordan Wilson played some good shots and showed great improvement in their running between the wickets. Simon had to retire having reached a fine 25 not out and although the remaining batsman fought well Portland finished their innings on 114-4. Both teams were given rousing applause from the crowd, who had watched a match that had shown all the best from Junior cricket. Coach Neven reported that, "It was a pleasure to be present at match that contained every thing that embodies the true spirit of cricket and it was a shame that either side had to lose. "Our boys were a credit to the club, they once again gave 100%, showed improvement in all areas of the game and showed respect for both the opposition and the officials."
