Match Report

Once again a good crowd were at Redlands to watch as Portland took on an experienced Puddletown team containing two Dorset under 16 players. Portland captain Aaron Riley won the toss and elected to put Puddletown into bat. The Puddletown openers began well and soon had the run rate up to 15 an over. Portland were not helped when Luke Hallett had to leave the field with a stomach upset leaving them a fielder short.

Portland's bowlers kept plugging away led by Captain Aaron who finished with figures of 3-40 as well as taking a superb catch, he was well supported by two debutantes Callum Laws (1-46) and David Waldon who bowled particularly well to record figures of 1-28. T. Alford finished 59 not out as Puddletown posted 174-5 in there allotted overs.

Portland's reply began slowly against some accurate bowling and they were soon behind the run rate. With a change of bowlers Portland lost quick wickets and despite an excellent 21 from Dan Strong and stubborn resistance from Callum who scored a creditable 9 on his debut, Portland's innings closed on 59.

Coach Neven said, "All our players fought well against a team containing 4 players with Dorset League experience and were a credit to the club. It is a steep learning curve for the boys but none were down hearted and are all looking forward to their next match."
