Dorchester: Richards, Martyn |
| Match report from The Dorset Echo |
Martyn Richards and wicket-keeper Lee Ames were chief architects behind Dorchester's one-sided Dorset Division One win at struggling Portland Red Triangle. Richards (86) and Ames (79no) put on a fourth-wicket stand of 156 at Reforne to guide the visitors to an impressive total of 288-4. And skipper Mark Derrien's men were just as dominant with the ball to skittle out the miserable islanders, who remain bottom of the table, for just 58. Veteran bowler Simon Talbot, back following a cricket academy tour in Denmark, took four wickets for just two runs while teenager Aaron Oliver also claimed a couple of Triangle victims on only his second senior appearance. After Ian Sibley (46) and Pete Moxom (16) got Dorchester's innings off to a solid start, Adam Rendell continued to keep the score-card ticking as the visitors reached 96-3. But it was once Richards and Ames got together that the visitors really began to show their dominance. The superb partnership, which took the score to 252-4, was only ended when Richards was bowled by Gary Randell for 83, before Quinten Miller (15no) joined Ames to take his side to a finish of 288-4. Portland have struggled on the batting front all season and once openers Chris Skinner (4) and Marco Nott (4) went early, there was little hope for the hosts. And that's how it proved as only Ben Doidge (16) and Dave Males (14) got into double figures on a desperate afternoon for the islanders. Delighted Dorchester skipper Derrien said: "Martyn Richards and Lee Ames were in terrific form and they were the main figures behind the win. To put on 156 for the fourth wicket must be a club record. Once they took the game by the scruff of the neck it was a pretty one-sided affair. It was great to see two ex-Hardye School lads getting their best ever scores for the club. "On the bowling side young Aaron Oliver impressed with two wickets on only his second senior appearance and Simon Talbot came back to bowl well and remind us what we have missed in the couple of weeks he has been out of the side." Triangle skipper Barrett, whose side have won only once this summer, admitted the defeat against their local rivals was an afternoon to forget. "Dorchester batted well but we bowled too many boundary balls, while we were absolutely terrible when it came to batting," said Barrett. "The less said about our performance the better." |
