Weymouth II: Janaway, Dean

Dean Janaway kept Weymouth Seconds Division One survival hopes alive at Reforne. The left-hander smashed an unbeaten century as the Seasiders whalloped relegated Portland Red Triangle by nine wickets. Set a target of 191 for victory, the visitors cruised home with Janaway stroking a majestic 104 while fellow opener Andy Jarvis hit 54.

The win means Weymouth must now take a maximum 20 points at Bridport on Saturday and hope results go against fellow strugglers Bournemouth and Beaminster who take on Swanage and Marnhull respectively. Skipper Steve Budd said: "This was a bit of a banana skin game for us. Portland might have already been relegated but they've got some good cricketers in their side and the fact it was a local derby added to the pressure.

"I was a bit disappointed that we didn't bowl them out but we were short in the bowling department having lost Paul Baker to injury early in the game. But we battled hard to put ourselves in a good position and then Dean and Andy saw us home." He added: "Dean's innings was pure class and hopefully now we can repeat the result at Bridport at the weekend and hope other results go our way."

After winning the toss, Budd elected to field and the visitors made an early breakthrough when Manu Dang got rid of Scott Males for a duck. Dang went on to take four wickets for just 19 runs, while Budd chipped in with 2-40.

Top scorer for Triangle was Sam Polley (32) while opener Dave Males (30) and captain Simon Barrett (28) also made important contributions. But 190-9 was never going to be enough against a strong Seasiders batting line-up and Janaway and Jarvis went about their business with ease.

Jarvis' knock included five boundaries with his half-century coming off 76 balls, while Janaway struck 16 fours and one six during his 111-ball stay at the crease. Together they put on 168 for the first wicket before Jarvis was trapped leg before by his former Redlands team-mate Jon Dixon.
