Stalbridge: Mark Chant |
| Match report from The Dorset Echo |
TRIANGLE suffered yet another set-back in their fight for Division One survival, going down by 180 runs at title chasing Stalbridge. After skipper Simon Barrett had lost the toss, the islanders were made to toil as the hosts smashed 318 batting first in a game reduced to 43 overs per side following a brief shower. Mark Chant and Chris Warne put on 84 for the first wicket in just 17 overs until the steady left arm spin of Jon Dixon (2-38) helped get Triangle back in contention. At 100-3, the visitors briefly threatened but half centuries from Robert Burfitt, James McPherson and Rob Williams soon had the North Dorset outfit dictating proceedings once more. A massive 114 runs were scored in the last 11 overs to take the hosts beyond 300 and effectively put the contest out of Portland's reach. In reply, Triangle never got going and only Ben Doidge impressed with a decent knock of 35. In the end the islanders were bowled out for 138 with Chant (4-7) and Andy Dike (3-5) the pick of the Stalbridge bowlers. A disappointed Barrett said: "Considering the team we put out due to work and holiday commitments, this was not a bad effort . from the boys. But obviously the result puts more pressure on us down at the bottom of the table. "On Saturday we have a 'must-win' game against fellow strugglers Bournemouth and I'm confident we can get a strong side out for that one and get the result we need." |
