Nets Notice: Thursday 7th No coaching at Royal Manor due to mock exams.
Once in a great while, we are privileged to experience an event so extraordinary, it becomes part of our shared heritage.
Therefore it is our honour to introduce the new
addition to the prtcc.com's features section: The
Ask Aaron Column.
So brilliant, yet so tortured, Aaron
has delved into the recesses of his mind to answer
the questions that no one else has dared to. In
the first of many exhibitions of his unquantifiable
range of knowledge, Aaron has given some thought-provoking
incites into the previously mundane. Sit back, and
prepare to be enlightened...

Christmas Bazaar
Bazaar organisers June Stewkesbury

AGM Roundup
 New Chairman Glyn Bartholomew
The main changes arising from the
AGM included the appointment of a new chairman
with Glyn Bartholomew taking the role after Conrad

from Richard Stewkesbury as the new Club Captain.
A new post of Social Secretary was created and ably
filled by the former chairman Conrad and Callan
Laws was elected as the Youth Team Representative.
Saturday team captains are unchanged
with Simon Barrett and Tony Quayle willing to continue
their roles. Marc Nott was replaced by Scott Males
as Sunday 1st XI skipper while Squeaker Browne is
still in charge of the Sunday 2nd XI. Pete Tombs
was elected to captain the newly formed Portland
Pirates touring side which will, in the words of
its founder, "Be a nomadic side" playing
Sunday friendlies across Dorset.

across the board: Senior £25, Student/Unemployed

End of Season Update
The season is finally over, with
just two friendly fixtures remaining - next Sunday
3rd September at home to Brooklands CC, then the following
Sunday 10th September away to Abbotsbury.
The Saturday 1st XI saw out their
final games after relegation to Division 2 was confirmed
with further defeats at the hands of Bridport, Weymouth 2nds
and Sherborne. In the final fixture at Sherborne,
Simon Proffitt (12) became the youngest player to
represent the 1st XI, scoring a fine 2 not out,
and bowling 5 overs, 0 for 56 (3 dropped catches
including a c&b chance).
The Saturday 2nd XI, led by the
mercurial Tony Quayle, made sure of avoiding the
drop from Division 6 by scoring maximum points in
their final game against Cranborne. After posting
191/3, Triangle's bowlers made short work of the
visitor's batting and eased to a 7 wicket win.
The Sunday 1st XI wrapped up a disappointing
season with a thrilling match against Cheselborne.
After scoring 233/6 thanks largely to a 144 run
partnership between skipper Marc Nott (50) and Adam
Rose (68*), the home side looked to be coasting
to victory until an 8th wicket partnership of 80
left Cheselborne needing 9 to win off the final
over. Thanks to some tight bowling from Michael
Males, it went down to the final ball with 3 runs
needed for victory, but alas Mike wasted an easy
run-out chance to give Portland the win and the
game was tied.
The Sunday 2nd XI rounded off their
season with a narrow 10-run defeat away to previously
winless Ibberton. Club Captain Richard Stewkesbury
was devasted to see his hattrick chance spilled
at short leg by Ben Taylor, as the islanders looked
to on the cusp of another win. A traditional mid-order
collapse made it a struggle for Triangle and in
the end they had to settle for defeat.

Jon Dixon Club Record 208
A long awaited update for the
website, apologies to all our loyal readers.
Weekend Action - Roundup
A belated congratulations to Jon
"Dazzling" Dixon on hitting a Club record 208 in the
Saturday 1st XI's first win of the season at home to Bridport on 10th
June. Chasing 289, Dicko led the fightback with a magnificent knock
that contained 17 sixes and 21 fours, eclipsing Gary Randell's 178*
against Marnhull in 2003. Dave Males (8) shared in an opening partnership
of 99, and then Tony Quayle (25*) helped Dicko through his
innings sharing in a Club record 172 run stand for the
2nd wicket until the big man was dismissed with only 19
runs needed. Simon Browne relieved his pad rash to hit an unbeaten 9
which saw PRT home. Full report online, click
here
Unfortunately Dicko couldn't
repeat his success this week against Weymouth 2nds when he was
dismissed second ball. Weymouth batted first setting 178 with Tom
Steadman getting 95 of their runs, in reply a fine knock from Simon
Browne of 72* was not enough as he ran out of batting partners as
Triangle slipped to another defeat.
The Saturday 2nd XI are still
looking for that elusive first win of the season as they followed up
a crushing defeat at the hands of Abbotsbury with another loss to
Ferndown 2nd XI, in their first home game of the season. Things
couldn't have started worse for Tony Quayle's side as they were
quickly reduced to 8/5, with Pete Tombs having scored 6 of those
runs, but alas already back in the pavilion. A stirring recovery by
Joel Maisey (26) and Dave Clifford (35) gave the innings some
respectability, closing on 113 all out. The visitors were made to
work hard for their runs, but the total proved too low to defend and
Quayle's team is still propping up Division 6.
Tom Cole 176*
Marc Nott's Sunday 1st XI are still looking for their
second win of the season after losing away to Lytchett Minster by 9
wickets, and then pushed division leaders Corfe Mullen close at
home, before slipping to another defeat.
Squeaker Browne's Sunday 2nd XI
have yet to add to their unexpected victory against Sturminster
& Hinton, losing at home to Broadstone. Chasing 289 against
Wareham, Tom Cole recorded the third highest innings in Club
history, scoring 176*. With 32
required for victory off the final over, Tom was only able to hit 19
as Triangle fell 13 runs short in an incredible game.
30th
May, 2006
Weekend Action
Simon Barrett's Saturday 1st XI
continued their struggle against the drop away to Bournemouth &
OB's with a resounding 140 run loss. 15 year old Dan
Strong was restricted to bowling just 5 overs, but made the most of
them taking two wickets, though that was not enough to stop the
hosts putting on 220 runs at the close. In reply all-rounder Simon
Browne was unlucky not to notch up his first half-century of
the season when he was dismissed for 45. The ever popular morale
officer Tony Quayle kept everyone's spirits up and held his end up
as Triangle resisted being bowled out, though finished quite a
distance short of the winning post. The 2nd XI's game at home
to Poole Town IV's was called off due to an unfit pitch.
With occasional skipper Marc Nott
away in Manchester watching a charity football match between two
sets of veterans and washed up celebrites, it was once again left to
Scott Males to lead the 1st XI away to Parley II's. As players
suddenly declared their unavailability over the weekend, or weren't
informed they were selected and with Lenny Hansford being called out
on an emergency on Sunday morning, Triangle were down to the bare
bones as they assembled at the West Parley Sports Centre. With
just 4 recognised batsmen in the side, the stand-in skip won
the toss and elected to bowl, which proved a wise decision as he
helped himself to 6 wickets for 26 runs, as the hosts were skittled
for 122. Alas in reply, Triangle slumped to 86 all out, though late
rallies from Andy Marsh (16) and Dan Strong (15) looked like the
visitors might sneak a win, but it was not to be.
Meanwhile, at Reforne, Squeaker
Browne led the 2nd XI to a fine victory against Sturminster and
Hinton II, with leg spinner Tony Babb the hero of the day taking 7
wickets for 42 runs as the visitors collapsed from 65-0 to 118
all out chasing just 122. The big man put his success down to fine
captaincy, great backup from the fielders and good home
cooking.
Evening League Update
Tom Cole's PRT side continued
their steady progress with two victories in one week, first brushing
aside early pace-setters The Giant Pot, led by ex-Triangle favourite
Gordon "Smokey" McCombe; and then caused an upset in the cup by
beating Portland United at the YOI to move into the Quarter Finals.
Triangle's bowlers are still setting the league alight taking 32
wickets in their 4 matches so far, with Dave Clifford leading
the wicket takers with 7, closely followed by Scott Males
(6) and Phil Winslow (5). The skipper has led by example with
the bat with knocks of 41 and 34 in the week's games as Triangle
lead the Division 2 standings.
At the other end of the table, Richard
Stewkesbury is steering the George Inn towards an unenviable
100% record, as they are yet to win in the league this season. All
this could change as they meet PRT in the Reforne derby, with
their skipper confident of beating the odds to give the George their
first ever evening league victory. "Bunter" Stewkesbury is hoping
his mix of youth and experience can wear down the winning mentality
of Tom Cole's division leaders with a display of old fashioned
bulldog spirit. He believes that Triangle are still suffering from
the psychological scars of last season's unlikely draw, and has
prepared a Mourinho-style dossier on Cole's players. Good luck
Stewkes!

Thanks to all who helped out with
either organising the beer festival, serving behind the bar,
collecting glasses or just turning up to support the event by

St
George's Weekend Beer Festival 2006
As some of you may have already
read in the latest edition of Portland Red Triangle's premier (some
might say only) newsletter:
Once again the club is grateful
to The George Inn for hosting this year's Festival. After the
success of last year's event, we are hoping to build on the
reputation of both the club and The George by making this year's
event bigger and better. It is hoped to have 15 real ales and a
cider (much to Stumpy's joy) all of which are to be sponsored by
local businesses and individuals.
Club Captain Richard Stewkesbury
has been working away, assisted by his mum and the Cole family, to
turn the event into a major success. Once again all members and
supporters are asked to attend and Richard is still looking for
volunteer bar stewards to man the pumps.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a
barrel or helping at the event should contact Richard Stewkesbury on

Cricket
The Under 12 side completed their
campaign in the Weymouth Sports Club Indoor Cricket Season 2005/6
and maintained their unenviable 100% losing record in a narrow 27
run defeat to Cerne Valley. Coach Neven was full of gushing praise

again gave 100%, showed improvement in all areas of the game and
showed respect for both the opposition and the officials." Read

Portland Red Triangle will once
again be taking part in this year's Natwest CricketForce.
Following on from last year's
successful event in which the clubhouse was totally redecorated and
the grounds given a spring clean, this year's event will take place
over two days.
On the 8th April starting at
11.00am the club, in conjunction with the South Dorset Schools Sport
Partnership and Richard Scott (Dorset C.C.C. Head Coach), will be
running the Portland Red Triangle Kwik Cricket Challenge. The
Challenge which is aimed at Under 12's will consist of coaching
workshops and a knock-out competition. It is hoped that all the
junior schools on Portland will enter teams and in the event of the
weather not being suitable, Royal Manor Arts College will host the
event.
Tea and Refreshments will be
provided and a raffle will be held for the sought after prize of a
cricket bat signed by players from Gloucester C.C.C. All members,
mums and dads, aunties, uncles and grandparents are encouraged to
attend and lend support to an event that is aimed at promoting

Portland
Red Triangle School Visit Wednesday 15th March
Club Secretary Grant Neven and
Youth Team Manager Andy Randell were given a wonderful welcome at
Underhill Junior School on a bright and sunny Portland afternoon.
The visit was planned as part of the build up to the Natwest
CricketForce 2006 event and to raise the profile of the club in the
local community.
Andy and Grant took two sessions
in the afternoon, both of which were attended by 20+ children of all
abilities. Our representatives took the children through a basic
introduction to cricket, which involved group work in
catching,bowling,fielding and batting.
Grant reported 'Andy and myself
were made really welcome by all the staff and children. The children
all enjoyed themselves and all put maximum effort in to all the
exercises we gave them. At least 10 children expressed that they
would like to play more cricket and were going to attend the regular
Thursday evening coaching sessions'.
It is hoped to run further
sessions after the schools Easter break, not only at Underhill
School, but at all the other Island Schools.
The club would once again like to
thank the staff and Children for such a wonderful welcome and an
enjoyable afternoon.
Any members who are interested in
helping our schools visit programme should contact either Andy or
Grant.

Quiz Night
Triumph
As reported, in his own inimitable style, by

"Tuesday 21st February saw two
teams from P.R.T take part in the Global Rock Challenge Quiz Night,
held at Royal Manor Arts College
The two teams consisting of
P.R.T's finessed quizzes battle against 12 other teams and more than
held their own. The Tom Cole Fan Club captained by William (Trevett

themselves out of several correct answers.
The Chairman's Select lead by
Club Chairman Conrad Cole and including Portland's very own Weakest
Link Champion 'Squeaker' Brown, Club Captain Richard (The Duke)
Stewkesbury and number Two Banana Tom Cole triumphed by one point,
in a closely fought and extremely enjoyable contest.
