A good crowd of supporters gathered at Redlands to watch the clubs under 12's compete in their first indoor fixture of the winter league.
Milton Abbas won the toss and put Portland into bat. Portland's openers Ryan Johnson and Matthew Randell never looked in trouble against the Milton Abbas bowling attack, as they both played the bad bowl with great skill, defended well and ran well between the wickets. With both having to retire after
scoring 25 (Matthew hitting the ball for six whilst on 24 and retiring on 30),Jordan Wilson and Chris Bezzant continued to score freely and with the final ball being bowled Portland closed on an impressive 163-1.
Milton Abbas began slowly against some superb bowling and fielding, after 4 overs the first wicket fell with Jordan taking a fine catch to dismiss V. Lake for 6. Star fielder on the day Chris Theakstone then produced a fine piece of skill to run out B. Saxch for 4 and despite a battling 30 not out from W. Arkell, Milton Abbass were never able to get on top of a fine Portland bowling attack and their innings closed on 77-2 leaving Portland victorious by an impressive 86 runs.
Coach Grant Neven was delighted "Everyone performed well, Matthew as captain led from the front his bowling, batting and fielding were superb, Chris Bezzent and Chris Theakstone performed with great application and skill on their competitive debuts, Jordan and Ryan were outstanding and Chris Brown behind the stumps had a great game. If the side can perform to this standard every game they will be giving some of the more fancied teams more than a good run for their money. It's difficult to chose a man of the match as everyone gave 100%, but Matthew just edges it for his outstanding performance and the maturity he displayed in his leadership of the side."
