Match Report by Grant Neven

A depleted Portland side arrived at Bridport on a perfect evening for this 1st round match, the 8 man side were generously help out by a sporting Bridport side who provided 3 players to field.

Skipper Simon Proffitt lost the toss and Bridport chose to bat. Simon and Matthew Randell opened the bowling against a strong batting side and bowled well with little success.1st change bowler Christian Grant-Jones struck in his first over and continued to bowl well, having two batsman dropped of difficult chances. The Wellington brothers produced some good balls and all the Portland team fielded well restricting Bridport to 164 - 1 off 20 overs, with 3 Bridport players having to retire on 35.

Portland's reply began badly with Matthew being dismissed in the 1st over without troubling the scorer. Bridport bowled and fielded well throughout and despite a fine 35 not out from Skipper Simon finished on a creditable 71-6.

Coach Neven reported, "All the team performed well against a very strong side containing several county age group players. The team stuck to the task and every player produced something of merit, every batsman played well and played some fine shots against some very tight and accurate bowling. The team as a whole were praised by the opposition's coach for their effort and sportsmanship, something that they can all be proud of."

Portland Man of the Match: Simon Proffitt.
