For Six Introductory Course

Aims:

• To Provide skills training to club junior section volunteers/helpers to enable cricket to be introduced to young cricketers in a fun and enjoyable way

• To give club helpers/volunteers up to date information on the coaching of cricket skills

• To give adults the skills and information needed to assist ECB qualified coaches working in junior sections of clubs.

• To give adults/juniors volunteers a better understanding of delivering a safe practice in a safe environment.

Target Audience:

• Parents helping out at club junior sections

• Volunteers (16+) working in club junior sections

• Adults (16+) assisting club coaches on club junior practice nights

Course Duration:

• 3 hours

• To be delivered by arrangement locally as 1 x 3 hour session.

Syllabus:

Batting: 1 Hour

    Grip, Stance & Backswing

    Straight Drive

    Pull Shot

    Progression to small sided games

Bowling: 1 Hour

    Grip

    Bowling action

    Run up and approach

Fielding: 30 Mins

    Catching – High & Close

    Intercepting and throwing

Coaching Principles: 30 Mins

ECB Philosophy of coaching:

    Provide a fun and safe environment in which people, particularly children and young people, can enjoy their first experience of cricket, gain some success and are motivated to go on playing.

    ECB believes that good coaching is about coaching people, not just about coaching Cricket.
