A good performance in the field was let down by some lacklustre batting. Triangle's openers bowled without luck, Olly managing to pass the edge of the bat on a number of occasions. Morris dropped an easy caught and bowled chance off Walton, while seeing Walker place some inside edges just wide of the stumps. The first breakthrough came from new skipper Dave "Dead-Eye" Price with a direct hit to run out Baney. The change bowlers brought wickets as Clifford and
Strong tempted Budmouth to hit it to the safe hands of Price and then danger man Morley was bowled cheaply by Clifford. Strong was fortunate to pick up his second as Walton top-edged a high full toss to Clifford at third man, and Michael Males bowled Dyke after being hit for four the ball before.
Still, 107 looked a gettable target and Triangle were on the pace after the first four overs, thanks to some generous wides. Once the Budmouth bowlers had settled on their line, and coupled with the long grass in the outfield, the run rate stalled to little more than 3 an over. Smart was furiously trying to move the score along, but was unable to get bat on ball, and one of the few times he managed it he was caught behind.
Debutant Jamie Kempster replaced him, and despite not having played
in nearly 5 years, soon got off the mark, but was deceived by a slow straight one. The skipper moved himself up the order in search of runs, though his best efforts were for naught as his attempt to go for the big hit result in him losing middle stump. Males soon perished looking to hit out, though may have left it too late when more than 60 were required from the final 3 overs. So it was left to Strong and Neven to achieve the impossible, but just two balls later and the little guy hit Triangle's first boundary
of the innings as the islanders fell 46 runs short of victory.
