PRT finally recorded a victory in this season's evening league after so many near misses, but it may well be a case of too little, too late if relegation is to be avoided. Laurie West's frugal spell yielded 2 wickets for just 2 runs, while fellow opener Tony Morris was carted around the field by the hard-hitting and free-swinging Andy Mason. A change was needed, so veteran off-spinner Andy Randell entered the fray with instant results, as he struck in his first over and went on to claim 6 wickets. Skipper Dave Price removed the dangerous Mason, tempting him into a lofted drive straight to Dave Clifford at deep mid-off. Randell soon accounted for Pat George, caught one-handed by Price, and the football club's backbone was broken and wickets tumbled freely.
Price rejigged the batting order sending out "Stonewall" Clifford and Richie Rich Samuel to open, with instructions not to hang about. Young Samuel took this on board and plundered a rapid 10 before missing a straight one, while Clifford took on the Dave Males role and decided to play himself in. The skipper had seen enough so went out next, reducing the visiting attack to rubble with some measured hitting and benefitting from some wild overthrows. The victory target was soon in sight, with Clifford now on a healthy 7 from 9 overs, Price chose to finish the game there and then with a straight six back over the bowler's head.
