Welcome
Greetings to all members of Portland Red Triangle CC who actually took
time out to fill in their email address on their membership
form at the beginning of the season. To others receiving
this, we must have picked up your address at some
point over the years.
This is the all-singing, new-fangled newsletter designed
to help keep our members and friends of PRT up-to-date with events at the
club during the long winter months and hopefully
throughout next season.
All this season's final league tables and player
averages for
all the teams are available on the club's website,
www.prtcc.com.
Season 2005 Review
Simon
Barrett's Saturday 1st XI survived
their relegation worries and will be competing once
again in Division One next season, after winning 7 of
their 18 fixtures. Gary Randell was again top of the
batting averages scoring 550 runs with a quite superb
average of 55.50 and was also the leading wicket
taker with 20 wickets at 20 runs apiece. Sam Polley
also chipped in with 18 wickets and Glen Kelman returned
to the side after a year's absence to add 14 of his
own.
The Saturday 2nd XI, skippered by Tony Quayle, started brightly
but faded from the promotion race in Division 7 (West),
also winning 7 games. The captain led by example and
was top run scorer with 344 runs at an average of 49.14,
ably assisted by all-rounder Bill Gates who scored 220
runs at 31.43 and took 18 wickets at 10.16 when he wasn't
called away on 1st XI duties. Young Chris Skinner also
hit his first half-century for the club, with 61 against
Bradford Abbas.
Alex Charlton's maiden season in charge of the Sunday
1st XI looked to be heading for disaster until a late
season run of victories saw his side surge up from the
bottom of the table to a respectable 4th position.
Dave
Males once again topped the batting averages (334 runs
at 37.11) but was closely matched by Marc Nott (326
runs at 36.22) who also scored his first century for
Triangle with a magnificent 135 against Cattistock.
Top of the bowlers was the captain, with 15 wickets
at 19, while the Dorset Echo's Far East correspondent,
Graham Elenor guested for 2 matches, picking up 8 wickets
in the process, and finishing the second top bowler,
alongside Jon Dixon.
Squeaker Browne took time out from his hectic TV schedule
to lead his fledgling Sunday 2nd XI as they made progress
throughout their debut season. They even claimed the
scalp of runaway leaders Avon Social Club, as they inflicted
their one and only defeat of the season. The captain
was naturally the leading wicket taker, with able support
from leg spinner Tony Babb, and also the runs of Buster
Brown.

Presentation Night
This year's gala event is only 6 days
away and will be once again at the
Blues Club, at Portland United FC, Grove Corner, on
Friday 14th October. Doors open at 7.30pm and there
will be a buffet and disco provided, along with the
usual trophies and speeches. Tickets are available
at £10 for senior members and £5 for juniors.
If you
haven't already been harassed by any of the captains,
Stewkes or Stumpy then you can always contact one of
them for details, or even Club Treasurer Tony Morris.
All contact numbers are available in your fixture cards
on via the website - www.prtcc.com
Charity Fete
Thanks to all club members who donated either prizes,
their time or just sold raffle tickets to help with
the fete. Unfortunately the weather was against us,
but we still managed to raise just under £1800.
The majority of this will be kept to cover the annual
expenses of ground rent, rates etc, but some of the
remainder has been earmarked to be donated to a few
local charities on the island, including the Royal Manor
Dance and Jazz groups who were present on the day, along
with Dorset Cancer Care and the Get it Together Able
and Disabled Drama Group.
Annual General Meeting
The date for this year's AGM has been
provisionally set for Friday 25th November, in the Portland
YMCA lounge. Any club members who wish to attend are
welcome as the elections for club officials takes place,
as well as poring over the minutes of last year's meeting
and scrutinising the treasurer's annual report.
Xmas Bazaar
In another effort to raise funds, this year, with the YMCA, PRT will be holding a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 10th December,
at Portland YMCA, beginning at 12.30pm until 3.30pm.
If anyone wishes to help, knows anybody who may want
to run a stall or just feels like donating something
for the raffle, then please get in touch with Mrs Stewkesbury
(823502) for more details.
School Partnership & Junior Net Sessions
Portland Red Triangle has now established a partnership
with Royal Manor school, and every Thursday evening,
from 6pm - 8pm, our club coaches will be holding net
sessions in the school hall. All junior members are
welcome to attend, along with any senior players who wish to help
out. Contact Stumpy for further details.
Triangle's Webshop
As some of you may have seen from visiting
the website, we have had a webshop running since the
start of the season. The commission from this has already
raised £20 for club funds and if any of you do shop
online at stores such as Amazon, Play.com, CDWow, Comet,
Blackwells, Gameplay then by shopping through those
links, as well as the 80 further shops, helps to earn the commission for PRT at no extra
cost to you.
