Portland Red Triangle U16's vs. Poundbury U16's
Played At Redlands, 17-December-2005
PRT U16's won by 3 wickets
Portland Red Triangle triumph in nail biting finish.
P.R.T. U16's captain Aaron Riley won the toss and put Poundbury into bat in front of a good crowd at Redlands. His decision soon reaped rewards as two smart run outs and a fine piece of bowling by Richie (Rich) Samuals accounted for the first three wickets as Poundbury struggled to 10 for 3 in the first 4 overs. However despite fine bowling and fielding the Poundbury numbers 4 and 5 staged an excellent fight back. Portland took one more wicket in the final over as Poundbury's innings closed on 107-4, the last ball resulted in P.R.T's Luke Hallett sustaining a knee injury, which left him unable to bat.
P.R.T's openers M. Butcher and R. Samuals began steadily and after 5 overs were well up with the required run rate. Poundbury's second change bowler then accounted for 3 batsman in quick order and left P.R.T chasing the game. A solid stand between Captain Riley and Wicketkeeper Joel Maisey kept P.R.T in the game. With 2 overs left they required 21 runs for victory, a mix up accounted for the Captain as he was run out with P.R.T. still requiring 12 runs for victory. Joel played some excellent shots as the target was reduced to 2 with 2 balls left.
Poundbury's last bowler then bowled a wide which in indoor cricket counts for 4 runs and P.R.T had won what had proved to be a thrilling game played in an excellent spirit by both teams.
