Final Weekend Results Roundup
The Saturday 1st XI ended their campaign with a thrilling game against
Martinstown at the WindowMan Oval that saw them finish 5th in Division 3.
Triangle were bowled out for 177, with skipper Simon Barrett top-scoring with
36. In reply Martinstown were indebted to Ed Nichols (37) and Danny Dancer (56)
who led their run chase, leaving it to Moss and Read to hit the winning runs off
the penultimate ball of the match.

Meanwhile, at Martinstown, the 2nd XI were looking for a maximum point haul
and then hoping other results went their way. A fine performance in the field
saw Triangle bowl their hosts out for 143, with Jodie Locke the pick of the
bowlers with 5-37. Ryan Price marshalled the response with a composed innings of
59 not out, supported by Tony Quayle, leading them over the line for the full 20
points. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Triangle finished 3rd, just short of
promotion. View the scorecard...
The Sunday 1st XI secured the Division 4 title with a superb 8-wicket win at
home to Bournemouth 2nds. After looking destined for the title a month ago, a
three losses in the last 5 games saw them drop to 2nd, but with their destiny in
their hands, Gareth Price led his side back to the top of the championship.
Scott Males captured his 45th wicket for the Sunday side, making it a
magnificent 70 for all weekend sides.

the clutches of relegation to Division 2 to rise to a third place finish! Now is
a time to reflect and what better way with a statistical review of the season?

The Saturday 1st XI followed up their
thrilling tie at home to
Bridport with an equally nail-biting finish away to basement side Blandford
2nds. After bowling the hosts out for just 132, Triangle made hard work of the
run chase as they crept home with 2 wickets remaining. Jan Davey and Simon
Proffitt led the recovery, and until he got out with 4 runs required, it looked
like Callan Laws had guided the side home. Luckily Elil Thureirajah was on hand
and held his nerve to hit the winning runs which sees Portland move up to 4th in
The Saturday 2nds scraped to a 2 wicket win against Lytchett, after skipper
Grant Neven took matters into his own hand to take 5-39 as the hosts were
dismissed for 126. It was left to the 9th wicket pairing of Michael Males (28no)
and Tony Morris (6no) to bring home the points. Unfortunately second spot in
Division 8 was lost after a 50-run defeat at home to league leaders Shaftesbury.
The Sunday 1sts season has stuttered following successive defeats as skipper
Gareth Price had to put the title celebrations on hold. Triangle travelled to
Kings Park only to lose to Pokesdown Willows. Two partnerships of 78, first
between Simon Barrett (61no) and Callan Laws (59) and Barrett and Matt Randell
(39) saw PRT recover from 48-4 to finish on 210-6. This didn't prove to be
enough as Pokesdown eventually eased home by 5 wickets.
A low-scoring affair at the Windowman Oval saw Triangle slump to 72-7 before
an 8th wicket partnership of 20 between Scott Males (16) and Christian Brown
(21no) and 25 for the 9th between Brown and Morris (8) saw Triangle bowled out
for 117. A fine bowling and fielding performance saw Charlton Down wobbling at
97-8, but the visitors recovered to win in the 42nd over.
Congratulations to Ryan Price on his maiden ton! Ryan hit a fine 116 not out
as the Sunday 2nds scored 298-1 against Pokesdown Willows 2nds, skipper Dave
Adkins also notched up 105 before retiring. In reply, the Willows were bowled
out for just 95 as Triangle look to maintain their Division 5 status.
2 August, 2011
The Saturday 1st XI notched up their third straight win since Matt Gomm's
resignation with a 64 run victory over Stalbridge 2nds and are now up to 5th
position in Division 3.
Despite losing their last 2 games, the Saturday 2nds are still in 2nd place
in Division 8 after their good start to the season and should look to cement
their position with a trip to bottom of the table Lytchett 2nds this week.
The Sunday 1sts have bounced back from their first loss of the season away to
Winton Sports, with wins
against title-challengers Symene by 51 runs, and this week a comfortable 6
wicket win at home to Lytchett Minster to stay top of Division 4. Scott Males
took 5 for 17, supported by Sami Rathnayake's 4 for 3, as the visitors collapsed
from 84/2 to 110 all out. Simon Proffitt (52) and Jan Davey (34) added 101 for
the third wicket after openers Leake and Price fell cheaply.
View the scorecard
The Sunday 2nds up and down season continued as they convincingly beat
Cheselbourne by 89 runs, but then lost away to Ellingham by 8 wickets and
maintain their mid-table 6th place in Division 5.
PRT made great strides to save themselves from relegation with 3 straight
wins which now leaves them with a chance of finishing 3rd. A narrow victory
against fellow Division 1 strugglers Budmouth started the run, which saw John
Walker hitting the winning runs off the final ball of the game to
win by 4 wickets.
Chris Leake's 89 inspired
a shock 9-run victory
over Echo Cup winners and title hopefuls Saggies in a game that swung back and
forth and either team could have won.
Triangle's Division 1 status was all but confirmed following last night's
convincing 104 run demolition of New Look. Rich Samuel's 40 not out laid the
foundations for Triangle's total of 122/6, but then New Look collapsed in
spectacular fashion as first Callan Laws (3/2) tore through the top order and
then Simon Proffitt picked up a superb fivefer as the visitors were skittled for
just 18. View the

PRT Win Evening League Fixture!
Triangle did what many had thought impossible and won a second game in this
season's Swift Signs Evening League Division 1. This result still leaves PRT
rooted to the bottom of the table, but gives them a glimmer of hope of avoiding
the drop going into the final few games.
Simon Proffitt continued from his 98 vs the Bears with a fine knock of 75,
but was run out with the scores level. Dr John "Doc" Walker saw the side home,
driving through the covers off the final ball of the game.

Matt Gomm sensationally quit as Saturday 1st XI skipper

The Saturday 1sts recorded their first win of the
season in emphatic fashion with a superb 196-run win against Compton House.
Chris Leak was the star of the show with a brilliant double century, equalling
Jon Dixon's club record with a innings of 208 not out. Simon Proffitt supported
him well with 65 as they put on over 250 for the second wicket. Compton House

The Sunday 2nds once again fell short on their travels, despite a fine knock of
84 by skipper Dave Adkins. Shillingstone 2nds had looked to be heading to a big
score, but Marco Nott's spell yielded 4/29 as they collapsed from 194/5 to 219/9

A message from

A bespoke workshop has been designed and arranged which aims to provide
parents and potential helpers with the basic skills involved in
umpiring and scoring junior club matches. I am sure you will agree that
such people are of great benefit to the successful running of your
youth sides. On speaking with numerous parents, the general consensus
has been that they would be willing to help out except they find both
roles daunting due to a lack of knowledge. This workshop will provide
the necessary tools and confidence in undertaking umpiring and scoring
This would also work as a great refresher for your helpers in advance
of the 2011 season.

Indoor League Update
Portland Red Triangle Under 16's v Cerne Valley Under
Triangle triumph in last ball thriller.
Portland lost the toss and Cerne elected to bat in a match that
emphasized all that is good in youth cricket.
Matt Randell gave Portland the best possible start by bowling a maiden.
Portland continued to produce both excellent bowling and fielding, but
the Cerne openers were quick to punish anything short or wide as the
run rate mounted. With both openers having to retire, Portland quickly
accounted for two wickets, but the Cerne batting attack continued to
punish the loose ball and Cerne finished their 12 overs with
a challenging 132-2.
Portland's opening pair of Randell (39 no) and Christian Brown (26)
played with maturity and confidence against some fine bowling and
kept Portland up with the run rate. Both openers had to retire, and
when Cerne quickly accounted for Ryan Price for 0, the game appeared to
have swung Cerne's way. Duncan Bezzant (10) and Micheal Colbrocke(13)
just kept up with the required run rate against tight bowling and
fielding that was, at times, awesome. With 2 overs remaining, Portland
needed 18 runs, and despite losing two more wickets entered the last
over needing just 6 more. Despite some tight bowling, Randell sealed
the win with a
classic straight drive for six off the last ball.
Portland manager Grant Neven praised both sides 'What a match and what
an advert for youth cricket. Two evenly matched sides who gave their all
and produced a match of the highest standard. I for one would like to
congratulate both sides not just on the standard of play, but on their
sportsmanship as well'.
Portland Man of the Match: Matthew Randell.

Indoor League Update
with an impressive double.
Under 12's v Weymouth
Having won the toss and electing to bat Portland's openers
Tom Bearwish and Luke Strong made a positive start before Bearwish ( 14
) fell to a good catch behind. Strong was joined at the wicket by Lewis
Richards and the two dominated the Weymouth attack with solid running
between the wickets and some impressive stroke play. The runs continued
to flow, and after Richards retired for 27, skipper Ben Graham (19 no)
joined Strong, who fell in the last over for an impressive and
cultured innings of 21. This all-round effort enabled Portland to close
on a highly
Weymouth were always behind the run rate as accurate bowling and sharp
fielding kept up the pressure. Tom Hinde had a fine day in the field
and Strong held on to two fine catches. Graham (2-19) and Richards
never gave the Weymouth batsmen chance to
dominate, and Weymouth's innings closed on 98-4, giving Portland a
handsome victory by 52 runs
Portland Man of the Match Lewis Richards.
Under 14's v Powerstock
With Portland fielding two new players in Nick Voss and Ben Evans, the
knew that they would have to work hard to beat a strong Powerstock
Having being put into bat, openers Voss and Tom Dalkins once again
runs at a steady rate as Portland's batsmen set to dominate
the bowlers. With the score on 42 after 4 overs, Voss was run out
attempting quick runs and Dalkins was joined in the middle by Tyler
Penny. Dalkins fell to a fine catch but skipper Harry Munson joined
Penny and continued to punish the lose ball as the runs continued to
flow. Munson fell for 21 and Portland lost a further two wickets as
Powerstock fought back. With the fall of
Evans, Penny rejoined the game and dominated the Powerstock
attack, hitting 24 off the final over to finish with 53 not out, his
century for the club, enabling Portland to close on a
The Portland bowlers then produced a succession of accurate and testing
overs, supported by an outstanding display in the field. Powerstock
lost two early wickets, and were never allowed to get back into the
game. With the score on 75 Voss
accounted for the final Powerstock batsman to give Portland victory by
57 runs. Voss finished with 2-4 from his 4 overs and Dalkins 2-9.
Portland Man of the Match Tyler Penny.
Manager Grant Neven was full of praise for the Portland
youngsters: "What a great start to 2011, every player gave 100% and the
team ethic was second to none. Bowlers, batsmen and fielders performed
to high standard and should be proud of both their performances and
their sportsmanship. Each and every one was a credit to the club."
