Portland Red Triangle Under 16 125 A.O. beat Weymouth Girls 61 a.o. Portland concluded their indoor season with victory over Weymouth Girls, but not without one or two anxious moments. Put into bat Portland began slowly against some accurate bowling from the Ladies. With the score on 36, opener Alun Chapple became the first of three run out victims as Portland's running between the wickets and calling fell apart. Fellow opener Simon Proffitt keep his cool to reach a fine 29. With good support from Callan Laws (17) and Joel Maisey (16) Portland closed on 125 with Luke Hallet being the last man out in the final over. Weymouth Girls' openers showed great technique against a fine opening spell from Simon and Oliver Whisker, but were always behind the run rate. With the loss of both openers to a run out and a fine catch, the ladies despite a spirited effort and some fine shots fell well short of Portland's total, with Simon being the pick of the Portland bowlers returning figures of 2 for 10 off 3 overs of excellent line and length bowling. Portland Secretary Grant Neven commented, "I think that the boys underestimated the skill of a fine Weymouth Ladies team, they produced some great bowling, fielding and batting and were the most sporting side we have played all season. Our boys learnt a valuable lesson today and now know to give 100 per cent regardless of the strength of the opposition." Portland Man Of The Match: Simon Proffitt for a great all round display Portland Team: C. Laws (cpt), S. Proffitt, L. Hallett, O. Whisker, A. Chapple, J. Maisey (wkt) |
