|Charlton Down vs PRT Sunday XI|
|Played at Herrison, 13th May 2017
Dorset Division 1
|Charlton Down won by 4 wickets|
|Toss won by:||PRT|
|PRT Man of the Match||Dave Adkins|
|Report by Olly Whisker||
Ten travelled to Charlton Down with the intention of reversing their poor fortunes this season.
Arriving at the picturesque ground, Whisker won the toss and elected to bat on a damp wicket (the oppo had not utilised their new covers the previous evening to protect the wicket from the overnight rains). Ryan Price and Matt Randell opened and were solid as the ball kept low. Ryan was the first to drag on as the ball stayed low and Randell then followed suit.
A period of consolidation followed between Simon Barrett and Dave Adkins as they milked the ball into gaps, putting on 94 for the 3rd wicket. Adkins struck a fine fifty, striking a six over cover to reach the milestone before being bowled and Barrett was then bowled amassing a brilliant 28.
Cameron Midgley was sent in to continue from Saturday and was looking good until he was run out. Nathan Cornish entered the fray and was undone. Whisker hit quick runs at the end but Portland could only amass 148.
Following a delightful tea, we went out to field. Cornish opened up and had the Down in all sorts of trouble as he removed the opener Javed Gill bowled through the gate and then had Gill's brother pinned in front. The batsmen were most definitely foxed by the behind the back deceptions of the Portlander. Ryan Price took up duties from the other end and bowled with pace and guile eventually removing the other opener Eveleigh, snicking behind to Randell.
This brought the Roles Royce to the crease who pulverised the bowling, taking a liking especially to Randell, smashing him for 24 in his first over, including 3 consecutive sixes into and over the trees. Eventually, at the end of that over, he holed out to Whisker at long on. A procession of Jack Marsh, Adkins, and then Chalky all kept the pressure up, with Chalky picking up 2 wickets.
Eventually the Down got over the line. We were probably 20/30 runs short.
